Wilbur in Action

TA DA!!!!!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

It is with boundless joy that we announce the birth of our beautiful son, Wilbur Guthrie Becker.  He was born at 12:31 AM on October 12, measuring 20.5 inches and tipping the scales at an even 10 pounds.  Needless to say, his Mom was a super-hero, bringing not-so-little Wilbur into the world completely naturally, with labor lasting just a little over 8 hours.  He was born in the water with his Mom and Dad, and Dad had the privilege of cutting the cord.  We are all home safe and sound, resting and getting to know one another.

We chose Wilbur to honor the memory of Lee's one-of-a-kind grandfather, Wilbur Becker, stand-out citizen and dairy farmer of Colby, Wisconsin.  It's not a name you hear often these days, and we also love it for that reason, as well as the fact that it shortens nicely to Will.  Our passion for Shakespeare gets a nod whenever that nick-name is used.  Guthrie serves double-duty, referencing the iconic folk-music family of Woody and Arlo, as well as American theatre giant, Tyrone Guthrie, a pioneer of regional theatre, who helped to lay the foundation of an artistic community that has shaped both of us our careers.

We are so very grateful for all of your thoughts, love and prayers.  Please know we felt unbelievably supported and held by you all.

With love from all three of us!

Here follow a bunch of pictures!

Straight onto Mama's skin and in the pink.

Holding Wilbur for the first time.
Do I look 1 day old to you?
Pediatrician's office with a view
Wilbur's not certain about the whole deal.

Letting the neighborhood know!

Dad's favorite sight.
Can someone drive me home?  I've had too much to drink.

Do I look like I gave birth 5 days ago?

A few different looks

Birth Class

So, the Due Date has passed and we're sitting on the launch pad, all systems are go and we're waiting for liftoff.  Meanwhile, here are some pictures from our class a couple weeks ago that the teacher just sent us.

Practicing comfort techniques while Sara holds ice in her hand to simulate contraction pain.

Something called Ovarian Circular Breathing.

Some role-reversal, where I get to hold the ice cubes.  It lasts a while and it hurts.  I was a wimp and Sara was a good caretaker.
