Wilbur is honored at the Winston-Salem Human Relations Student Awards!

It is with great pride that I share this news! This week Wilbur was honored with this wonderful award, representing Jefferson Elementary. Here is the email that we received from his guidance counselor notifying us:

Good morning, I wanted to share with you that your son, Wilbur, was chosen to be Jefferson Elementary School's recipient of the Student Human Relations Award for this school year.

Wilbur was nominated for this award because of his willingness to help not only staff throughout our building but other students as well.  Wilbur demonstrates our Leader in Me values daily with not only staff members but also among his peers and our younger students.  He never hesitates to help others when he sees a need or is asked.  He is a student that is friendly towards his fellow students, he is dependable, reliable, and is always respectful towards staff members.

Wilbur will be recognized, along with other students, from across our District at a banquet held at the Benton Convention Center on February 28th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  I have attached information regarding how to obtain tickets to attend the banquet as well as more information about the banquet itself.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to Wilbur!  He is very deserving of this honor.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at the banquet,

Ann Gaster Spain

School Counselor

Jefferson Elementary School

It was a very special event, with the Mayor, Chief of Police, District Superintendent, and other city officials in attendance to celebrate the heart and generous spirit of these amazing kids.  Wilbur was nominated by his teacher, and she told me that the short paragraph she was allowed to write about Wilbur wasn't nearly enough to include all the ways he is deserving. She is a huge fan of Wilbur, saying in 20 years of teaching he is one of the true standouts, always looking for ways to help others, always kind, never once saying or doing anything to make anyone else feel badly. Needless to say, we are beyond proud of this compassionate and incredible kid!
